Pete Fairbanks Picks Up Third Save On Monday
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks picked up his third save of the season in the Rays 5-2 win over the White Sox on Monday. Fairbanks worked a clean ninth inning allowing no baserunners in securing the victory. It was Fairbanks' second save in his last three appearances for the Rays. Although Diego Castillo was called on to pitch the eighth inning in Monday's contest, Castillo recently picked up a save on Saturday (his 11th of the season). Accordingly, despite Fairbanks locking down two saves recently, Castillo remains very much in the mix for save opportunities in Tampa in a full closer-by-committee situation. In fact, four Rays have recorded multiple saves this season, with Castillo and Fairbanks most recently leading the committee. Over 17 innings pitched on the season, Fairbanks owns an impressive 1.06 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP, a 20:8 K:BB, and eight holds to go with the three saves. Fairbanks will likely share save opportunities with Castillo going forward. Though Castillo may see the bulk of the save chances, Fairbanks is still a solid add in all formats. In leagues that also reward holds, Fairbanks is a must-add if he is, somehow, still available on the waiver wire.
