6 years agoThe Minnesota Twins designated right-hander Phil Hughes for assignment on Monday, meaning they have seven days to trade him, place him on waivers, or make him a free agent. Hughes was excellent in 2014, his first season with the Twins, but has struggled with injuries since, logging just 280 total innings since the start of the 2015 season. Hughes opened this year in the team's starting rotation but was demoted to the bullpen when the team promoted rookie right-hander Fernando Romero to the big leagues a few weeks ago.
