Phillies Acquire Vinny Nittoli From Blue Jays

2 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies acquired right-handed reliever Vinny Nittoli from the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, and they plan to add him to their major league roster when rosters expand on Thursday, according to sources. It's unclear what Toronto received in return. Nittoli planned to opt out of his minor league deal on Wednesday, but the Blue Jays decided to trade him first. The 31-year-old has posted a 3.30 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 59 strikeouts, two saves and 14 walks in 46 1/3 innings pitched in 32 outings (four starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Triple-A Buffalo in the minors this year. He won't be much of a fantasy asset down the stretch, but he'll give the Phillies some extra bullpen depth as they look to earn a wild-card spot.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
