Phillies In Serious Pursuit Of Nick Castellanos
3 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are in serious pursuit of free-agent outfielder Nick Castellanos, according to sources. Castellanos would put the Phillies well over the luxury tax threshold, but they appear to view him as a big enough difference-maker to justify that. A Castellanos signing would push the recently signed Kyle Schwarber to designated hitter. The cost-cutting Cincinnati Reds have never been interested in re-signing Castellanos, and although the Miami Marlins were interested in him before the lockout, they haven't touched base on him since. The 30-year-old slugger is one of the best all-around hitters in baseball and would be another huge upgrade for the Phillies. As a first-time All-Star in 2021, Castellanos hit .309/.362/.576 with a career-high 34 home runs and 100 RBI in 138 games for the Reds.
