2 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates called up right-hander Johan Oviedo and outfielder Cal Mitchell from the minors on Thursday with rosters expanding. Oviedo will start the game on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Pirates acquired Oviedo at the trade deadline from the St. Louis Cardinals but then assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis, where he posted a 0.79 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 13 strikeouts and three walks in 11 1/3 innings over five appearances (four starts). The 24-year-old Cuban was also solid for the Cardinals in 14 games (one start), allowing only nine earned runs on 26 hits while walking seven and striking out 26 in 25 1/3 frames. Oviedo will have a chance to stay in Pittsburgh's rotation the rest of the way and is worth a pickup in deep mixed leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
