7 years agoMLB.com's AJ Cassavell confirmed San Diego Padres starting pitching prospect Eric Lauer will debut Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies. Prior to the call-up, the 22-year-old left-hander carried a 3.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 9.5 K/9 over three starts at Triple-A El Paso. Heading into 2018, Lauer was the Padres No. 12 prospect, and he has had a successful ascension through the minors since being drafted in 2016. He impressed in spring training with a 2.53 ERA over 10 2/3 innings pitched. Lauer's first start is a tough draw at Coors Field, but the Friars believe he's ready for the big leagues. With the Padres deep farm system and the emergence of rookie starter Joey Lucchesi, Lauer's progress Tuesday and beyond merits watching. San Diego's weak starting rotation gives him an opportunity to stick around.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
