Rams Defense In For An Early Test
5 years agoThe Los Angeles Rams will take on the Carolina Panthers on the road in Week 1, and the Rams Defense will be tested by versatile third-year running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey rushed for 1,098 yards and seven touchdowns last season, but what made him so dynamic were his 107 receptions for 867 yards and six scores. The Rams were midrange at defending the running back position last year, but they didn't allow opposing backs to do a lot through the air. The 477 receiving yards they allowed backs were fourth-best in the league. Rams all-world defensive tackle Aaron Donald creates havoc in the middle, and they have linebackers and ends on the edge that can contain running backs. The Rams will force quarterback Cam Newton to beat them downfield, and Newton is coming off of a significant shoulder injury and is now dealing with a mid-foot sprain. The Rams are a top-five defense to own this season. McCaffrey will test them in Week 1, but the Rams Defense is a solid one to play in the opener.
