6 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk (knee) has been cleared to start a minor league rehab assignment and has been assigned to High-A Dunedin. Grichuk has been out since the end of April due to a PCL strain in his right knee, but it sounds as though he’s been progressing well as of late after some early setbacks. Assuming the rehab assignment goes well, Grichuk could be ready for the Major Leagues shortly. The issue here, though, is playing time. In Grichuk’s absence, Toronto’s outfield has been great. Kevin Pillar won’t stop hitting, Curtis Granderson has been solid and Teoscar Hernandez, Grichuk’s initial replacement, has emerged as a player. Add in the fact that Grichuk was off to a terrible start with a .106/.208/.227 slash line prior to the injury, and his path to consistent playing time gets murkier.--John Smith
