Rangers Announce Jon Gray As Opening Day Starter
3 years agoTexas Rangers manager Chris Woodward announced on Tuesday that starting pitcher Jon Gray will be the team's Opening Day starter on April 8 at the Toronto Blue Jays. Gray gets a tough first assignment with the Rangers after signing a four-year, $56 million deal this offseason. The 30-year-old right-hander has always had fantasy upside given his strikeout ability, but calling Coors Field home for the first seven years of his career has kept him from reaching his true potential. Texas isn't the best environment for pitchers either, but it's certainly an upgrade. In his career, Gray has a 4.59 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and an 849 to 280 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 829 1/3 innings. He should be a solid source of innings, wins and strikeouts as RotoBaller's No. 41-ranked fantasy starter.
