4 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Royals have agreed to a swap of highly touted prospects, with outfielder Brett Phillips heading to the Rays and infielder Lucius Fox joining the Royals. Phillips has scuffled in parts of three Major League seasons, having slashed .205/.282/.344 across 136 games. Fox, who was ranked as the No. 79 prospect in the league before 2019 by Baseball Prospectus, has yet to receive a big league call-up, having hit just .221 last year between Double-A and Triple-A. Tampa Bay is already jam-packed in the outfield, so it’s unlikely that Phillips sees enough at-bats right away to merit season-long consideration. The Royals can add Fox to their Pipeline, hoping that the speed that led to 39 steals last year continues to help him move up the ranks.--Jesse Borek
