Rays To Open Season With Four-Man Rotation
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said the team will open the year with a four-man rotation that will last until mid-May, which means starting pitcher Matt Andriese will work out of the bullpen in a mult-inning role to begin the season. This isn't good for Andriese to begin the year, but the trade of Jake Odorizzi to the Twins likely assures that Andriese will serve in the starting rotation for most of the year. The right-hander posted a career-high 8.0 strikeouts per nine innings last year and missed plenty of bats in 17 starts. However, he struggled late in the year after a hip injury and finished with a weak 4.50 ERA, 2.9 walks per nine and 1.67 HR/9, meaning he remains a inconsistent fantasy product.
