6 years agoThe Boston Red Sox got the right-handed batter they were looking for on Thursday evening as they swung a deal to get first baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce from the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston also received cash considerations in the deal while they gave up minor-league infielder Santiago Espinal. The 23-year-old Espinal projects to be a utility man in the majors. He has a .314 average with 32 RBI and seven home runs through 64 games at High-A Salem this season. As for Pearce, he greatly improves a thin Red Sox bench. Pearce has only appeared in 26 games for the Jays this season but he has a .291 average to go along with four home runs and 16 RBI. He'll be an occasional starter that sees some pinch-hit opportunities, but unless an injury happens to someone in the Red Sox outfield, he remains a fantasy afterthought.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBaller
