3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox are encouraged about the progress of starting pitcher James Paxton (elbow) in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Paxton is ahead of schedule and is already throwing short bullpen sessions. The 33-year-old left-hander had elbow reconstruction last April and isn't expected to be ready to go on a rehab assignment until sometime this summer, which is why the Red Sox placed him on the 60-day injured list to begin the season. Paxton made just one start last year for the Seattle Mariners and only five starts the previous season with the New York Yankees. In his last full season in 2019, he had a 3.82 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 186 strikeouts and 55 walks in 29 starts over 150 2/3 innings for the Yanks.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
