Red Sox Go With Shortstop Mikey Romero At No. 24
2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox took Orange Lutheran High School shortstop Mikey Romero with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft on Sunday. It's the second time in the last three years that Boston has taken a California high school middle infielder after going with Nick Yorke in a surprising move at No. 17 overall in 2020. Romero is a solid all-around shortstop prospect that hits from the left side of the plate. He has excellent contact skills and plenty of bat speed. The 18-year-old also has all the defensive actions you'd want to see from a shortstop, so he should be able to stick at the 6 for a long time. Romero stands at 5-foot-11, 168 pounds and has a better hit tool than power tool at the moment, but he should be able to develop at least average power.
