Reese McGuire Pops Spring Homer

4 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire slugged his first long ball of the spring off Twins right-hander Randy Dobnak on Thursday. He has a good chance at cracking the team's Opening Day roster if he can beat out veteran Caleb Joseph for the backup job, and he could even become the starter if Danny Jansen continues to struggle at the dish. McGuire slashed a cool .299/.346/.526 in 105 PA for the Jays last season, but doesn't offer much power for fantasy purposes. The 24-year-old found himself in hot water earlier in camp after exposing himself inside his car while in a parking lot and will appear in court in March to settle the charge. He likely won't contribute much fantasy value outside of AL-only formats this season.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
