Rhys Hoskins Will Have Season-Ending Surgery
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (abdomen) will have season-ending surgery to "repair a tear in his lower abdomen" per a tweet from MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. The Phillies previously placed the first baseman on the 10-day injured list earlier on Thursday. Hoskins was in the midst of a quality season at the plate, hitting .247 with a .334 on-base percentage, 27 home runs, and three stolen bases in 443 plate appearances. Brad Miller is a candidate to see more playing time at first base for Joe Girardi's squad. The 31-year-old is hitting .218 with a .310 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and three stolen bases in 271 plate appearances this season. However, he's probably only worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues at the moment. If you're looking for a Hoskins replacement who isn't on the Phillies roster, Brandon Belt and Patrick Wisdom are two names to consider.
