4 years agoSan Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) was initially slated to return for next Sunday’s matchup against the Rams, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Sherman sustained “some setbacks,” further pushing his return date back. Sherman played in just the team’s Week 1 contest before being placed on injured reserve due to a calf ailment. His injured leg reportedly has sustained some inflammation, with the team likely to continue relying upon Ahkello Witherspoon in the secondary. The 49ers’ defense has undergone considerable injury setbacks in 2020, which when combined with their Week 5 performance against Miami, makes them an average season-long option for this upcoming weekend.--Jesse Borek
