Riley Greene To Start In Center When Healthy
3 years agoNow that the Detroit Tigers added outfielder Austin Meadows to their outfield mix, prospect Riley Greene (foot) will be the team's starting center fielder when he's healthy. Greene broke his right foot last Friday in a Grapefruit League game when he fouled a ball off his foot, but he was likely to begin the year on the Opening Day roster if not for that injury. The 21-year-old had a .953 OPS in 185 plate appearances for Triple-A Toledo last year The No. 5 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, has a solid hit tool from the left side of the plate, and Greene also has a solid approach that should allow him to take plenty of walks at the next level. Greene could wind up missing six to eight weeks to open the 2022 season.
