Roberto Perez Set To Make Spring Debut Saturday
5 years agoCleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez (ankle) is set to make his Cactus League debut Saturday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. The 31-year-old underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle in October, but the procedure was never expected to impact his availability for Opening Day. Perez took over as the Indians primary catcher in 2019 and provides elite defense behind the dish. He also enjoyed a minor breakout season offensively. He hit a career-high 24 home runs and had 63 RBI in 2019. He should be in line for a heavy workload in 2020, and his batted-ball profile suggests his uptick in power is somewhat sustainable.
