4 years agoNew York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano will rejoin the team’s starting lineup as the designated hitter for Friday’s contest against the Phillies and rookie right-hander Spencer Howard. Cano has been out of the mix since Aug. 3 due to a groin injury, but he was off to a torrid start before being sidelined. In 12 games, Cano has hit .412, producing a 187 OPS+, on pace to be the highest mark of his career. New York could use Cano’s left-handed thump in the lineup with Jeff McNeil sidelined for the time being due to a leg bruise. So long as Cano is producing, he will be a staple of the New York order whether it be at second base or as the DH, giving him added season-long intrigue.--Jesse Borek
