3 years agoThe New York Mets designated second baseman Robinson Cano for assignment on Monday. The Mets still owe Cano close to $39 million. The Mets had to cut their roster down from 28 players to 26 on Monday, and the 39-year-old is the odd man out. Cano missed all of last season while being suspended for performance-enhancing drugs, and he had gone just 8-for-41 with one home run, three RBI and 11 strikeouts in 12 games for the Mets before getting cut on Monday. Cano could latch on with another organization if he's granted his outright release, but the veteran second baseman probably won't be much more than second base depth with a new team.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
