6 years agoSeattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment around Aug. 1, according to MLB beat reporter Corey Brock. Cano will be eligible to return from his 80-game suspension on Aug. 14, so this would give the veteran two weeks to see some live pitching. Expect plenty of controversy once Cano returns after the Mariners brass intimated that Dee Gordon will remain at second base for the rest of the season. Cano this season is hitting .287 with four home runs and 23 runs batted in through 143 at-bats. The former All-Star is as professional a hitter as it gets but has only 10 home runs over his last 419 at-bats dating back to last year. But the Mariners are in a dog fight for the division with the Astros and expect Cano to play a role once he returns. However, he may not play as much as usual down the stretch.--Joey C - RotoBaller
