Rockies Don't Have The Budget To Extend Trevor Story
4 years agoColorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who can become a free agent after the 2021 season, is unlikely to re-re-sign with the team, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Heyman stated earlier that the Rockies are "said not to have the budget for any big signing at the moment, so barring some big change there won't be an extension coming anytime soon for superstar SS Trevor Story." The writing has been on the wall for some time, as the Rockies haven't even opened discussions about an extension with the All-Star shortstop. Colorado already traded third baseman Nolan Arenado to the Cardinals during the offseason and look to be heading into full-on rebuild mode. This recent bit of news increases the probability of a midseason trade, which could hamper Story's fantasy value. He should still play the first half of the year at Coors Field, though, so this recent bit of news shouldn't prevent you from taking him at his second-round ADP.
