Rough Fifth Inning Dooms Aaron Nola On Wednesday
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Aaron Nola pitched better than his stats would indicate on Wednesday as he allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Marlins. Nola was dealing early in the game and racked up 11 strikeouts without walking a batter. He did give up a couple of solo homers early, but overall it seemed like the Philly ace was on his way to another dominant performance. Then the fifth inning started. Nola was singled to death as every ball the Marlins hit found a hole or a gap and five runs scored, all with two outs in the inning. Nola has a rough 4.44 ERA, but his 3.47 FIP and 3.30 xFIP imply he has been unlucky making him a strong buy-low candidate in fantasy.
