Rough Seventh Inning Dooms Zack Wheeler In Loss To Arizona
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler was cruising on Thursday afternoon at the Diamondbacks, but got roughed up in the seventh inning to spoil a good day of pitching. Through six innings, the NL Cy Young candidate had allowed only one run on two hits. Wheeler's pitch count was under control so he was allowed to start the seventh inning. Five hits, four runs, and one shouting match with the umpire later, and Wheeler was lifted from the game. Wheeler did contribute seven strikeouts on the day and should still be considered a matchup-proof ace in fantasy. He should be started next time out despite a tough home matchup with the Rays.
