Royce Freeman Leads Texans Rushers During Week 2
2 years agoHouston Texans running back Royce Freeman received a team-high nine carries during the Week 2 preseason win over the Rams on Friday. Freeman has proven to be the team's bell cow out of the backfield thus far, despite having been largely bottled up. The 26-year-old compiled a team-leading 30 yards on the ground vs. L.A., but he has yet to find the end zone over the first two weeks. The early production from Freeman -- who appeared in seven games last season with Houston -- is likely a way of keeping presumed starting running back Marlon Mack as fresh as possible ahead of the regular season. Opportunities should be aplenty for a Texans offense that will be looking for thump anyway they can find it in 2022, but Freeman will be constantly battling a diverse backfield group that includes Mack, Rex Burkhead, Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale.
