6 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin has been a notoriously slow starter over the last few years, and this season it seems to have been even worse. It looked as though he may be coming out of it as of late, but those hopes were temporarily derailed in a 7-2 loss to the New York Yankees on Tuesday when he finished 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Prior to the goose egg, Martin was on a three-game hitting streak and had picked up base knocks in seven of his last eight games. At the offensively-challenged fantasy position that is catcher, it won’t take much out of Martin to become relevant, but with his .170/.309/.311 slash line with five home runs, he’s still a ways away from even reaching that level.--John Smith
