4 years agoBoston Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier strained his left calf while fielding a ground ball on Monday, and will begin the season on the injured list. Brasier was already expected to start the season on the injured list with a right pinkie fracture, but is now expected to be out for longer, as manager Alex Cora described the new injury as "not promising." Brasier had a good bounce-back season last year, placing third among Red Sox relievers in innings and posting a solid 120 ERA+. With the additions of Adam Ottavino and Hirokazu Sawamura, Brasier was not expected to get high leverage innings, but this injury will make it difficult for him to establish any role in the Red Sox bullpen.--Daniel Fox
