Ryan Brasier Nails Down Seventh Save
6 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher Ryan Brasier pitched a scoreless ninth inning, with a strikeout, to save a 2-0 win over Minnesota Monday. The 31-year-old needed just 11 pitches to clean up the inning and record his team-leading seventh save. He had just been activated from a week-long stint on the bereavement list. On the season, he's pitched 29 2/3 innings, has a 3.64 ERA, with a 26/8 K/BB. Matt Barnes had pitched four times in the last calendar week, so Boston simply could have been going with the fresh arm. However, Barnes has also been struggling in June, surrendering six runs in 7 2/3 innings, so it's possible that Brasier will continue to get save opportunities in the near future.
