Ryan O'Hearn Exits Early Due To Shin Injury
4 years agoKansas City Royals first baseman Ryan O'Hearn departed Saturday’s contest against the Twins early due to a right shin contusion, having been replaced by Franchy Cordero in the lineup. O’Hearn reached base in all three of his plate appearances Saturday, bringing his on-base percentage on the season up to .359 with eight RBI to his credit. Getting a chance to play on a nightly basis, O’Hearn hasn’t exactly molded himself into a fantasy asset, ranking in the bottom five percent of the league with a .214 xwOBA, while striking out at a 33.3% clip entering the night. Any extended absence would pave the way for Ryan McBroom to see time at first, but there’s also the possibility that Whit Merrifield continues his utilityman ways and sees time with a new glove. O’Hearn’s next chance to get back in the lineup comes Sunday versus Twins right-hander Jose Berrios, whom he has more hits against (six) than any other pitcher during his career.
