6 years agoToronto Blue Jays reliever Ryan Tepera may be the team’s closer with Roberto Osuna looking at an extended absence, but that doesn’t mean he’s been very good. Tepera had actually improved after his initial shakiness, pitching three consecutive scoreless outings over the last 10 days, but things didn’t go well for him on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Entering the bottom of the ninth inning in a scoreless tie, Tepera surrendered the game’s only run on a walk-off single by Rays third baseman Matt Duffy. In total, Tepera allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two. Considering Toronto doesn’t exactly have stellar options behind Tepera, this shouldn’t affect his short-term hold on the closer’s role, especially since this came in a non-save situation.--John Smith
