Ryan Weathers Continues Summer Swoon
3 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Ryan Weathers was tagged for six earned runs in 4 ⅔ innings Wednesday against the Miami Marlins. The 21-year-old surrendered seven hits including three home runs while walking one and fanning seven. After a commendable start to his career, the left-hander has fallen on hard times, possessing a grotesque 15.43 ERA in his last three outings. The swoon has inflated his season totals to a 4.72 ERA and 1.33 WHIP to accompany a modest 18 percent strikeout rate across 74 ⅓ frames. With a two percent whiff rate, Weathers lacks the pure swing-and-miss stuff to be a reliable fantasy arm, but he'll continue receiving opportunities in a weak Friars rotation. He lines up to face the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field next week and should be avoided in all formats.
