7 years agoWashington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman was left out of the lineup for the final preseason game on Tuesday, but manager Dave Martinez says he'll start Thursday for Opening Day. The team insists there's nothing wrong, pointing to Zimmerman's minor league game at-bats. He's also taken batting practice and did appear in one Cactus League game, going 1-for-2. He has a history of injuries over a 12-year career, so the club is likely just being very cautious. It's still odd for this to happen, as he'll need to work on his timing against big league pitching. Zimmerman had a career resurgence last year and will certainly crash back to earth this season. His absence isn't helping whatever value owners hope to get before the grind of the season exposes him once again.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
