5 years agoStarting with two innings from opening pitcher Ryne Stanek, the Tampa Bay Rays took what would have been the first combined perfect game in MLB history into the ninth inning on Sunday, before follower Ryan Yarbrough allowed a leadoff single. Tampa Bay ultimately prevailed over the Baltimore Orioles, 4-1, with Oliver Drake and Emilio Pagan getting one out each to earn a hold and a save, respectively. Although he could not finish the job, Yarbrough threw 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball, with no walks and six strikeouts. Yarbrough has shown excellent control this season, with just 11 walks in 69 2/3 innings. He lowered his season ERA to 4.26. He's not quite interesting enough for standard leagues, except as a risky way to try and vulture some wins. Deep league managers who don't need quality starts might want to consider him, however, given the newfound control and a 3.49 FIP.--Nathaniel Green
