Saints Restructure Michael Thomas' Contract Saturday
3 years agoThe New Orleans Saints converted $14.565 million of wide receiver Michael Thomas' salary for 2022 and $18.2 million of offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk's salary into signing bonuses on Saturday, creating $26.217 million in salary cap space for this season. The Saints have the worst salary cap situation in the league heading into the 2022 league year, so they have started their cap moves to create more space with these two moves. Thomas missed all of the 2021 season while rehabbing a left ankle injury, but he's expected to play in 2022 and the Saints want to keep him around. The 28-year-old was a three-time Pro Bowler from 2017-19 and also made two first-team All-Pro squads. Thomas led the NFL with 149 catches and 1,725 receiving yards in 2019, but that was also with quarterback Drew Brees still around. Injury concerns and QB issues will temper expectations for Thomas' fantasy value if he remains in New Orleans next season.
