7 years agoNew Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said they haven't started negotiations on a new deal for impending free-agent quarterback Drew Brees, but the Saints want him back. Loomis said, “We want him to be our quarterback, and we’ll get going on that at some point.” Brees said last week that he doesn't plan on testing the free-agent market and would like to re-sign with New Orleans. Because of a clause in his contract, the Saints can't put the franchise tag on Brees. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer took a step back in 2017 in what became a run-first offense, but he still put up an excellent completion percentage (career-high 72.0 percent). It's likely that his next deal will be just for one year or at least without much guaranteed money past 2018. Brees' arm strength isn't what it once was, either, but he's still a great leader of their offense and will likely be back in the Big Easy in 2018. Brees has a safe floor as a QB1, but he's no longer a high-end fantasy signal caller with the Saints having an excellent ground game and offensive line.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
