2 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold took the first-team repetitions at training camp practice on Wednesday, and Baker Mayfield will get the first-team reps at practice on Thursday, according to head coach Matt Rhule. This was the expectation all along after the Panthers acquired Mayfield in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. The mere fact that the Panthers traded for Mayfield should give him the edge for the starting gig in Week 1 of the regular season, but Darnold will be given a chance to prove himself after a disappointing first season in Carolina in 2021. Mayfield dealt with an injured left shoulder for most of last year and wasn't very good with the Browns either, but at this point, he's an upgrade over Darnold. Neither QB will be more than a low-end QB2 in fantasy, though.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
