Sam Darnold Will Play Sunday, Could Start Next Week
3 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold (shoulder) will play on Sunday against the Buccaneers after being activated from IR this past week, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Although Darnold won't draw the start, Rapoport notes that he "is expected to enter the game within a few series and, based on how he does, could play a substantial amount." Rapoport adds that he could "cement himself as the starter over the final two games." Prior to injuring his shoulder, Darnold, who is under contract for 2022, completed 182 passes for 1,986 yards, seven passing touchdowns, five rushing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. For this week, Newton ranks as a low-end QB2 while Darnold isn't on the fantasy radar just yet. That could change as soon as Week 17, though.
