7 years agoAfter having some degree of success in a few innings as a reliever for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, pitcher Sam Gaviglio made his debut in the starting rotation on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. Safe to say, it was a rousing success. Gaviglio only pitched 5 1/3 innings, but didn’t allow any runs. He did give up six hits, but only walked one and struck out six on 88 pitches. You can’t ask for much better than that. Gaviglio is clearly very talented, but at the same time, has minor league peripherals this season that indicate some degree of regression may be on the way. Still, if he’s going to pitch like that, it doesn’t matter. At this point it’s not confirmed, but he should receive at least another start while Jaime Garcia sits on the disabled list.--John Smith
