4 years agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara took one of the toughest losses of his career on Wednesday in a 1-0 game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Alcantara tossed 8 1/3 innings, allowing only one unearned run on six hits and a walk while striking out seven. He was cruising all game long, throwing 108 pitches, 76 for strikes. It was a dominating performance that certainly deserved a win, but the Triple-A looking lineup assembled by Don Mattingly got shut out by Johan Oviedo and two Cardinals relief pitchers. It was as embarrassing an offensive and managerial performance as it was an impressive pitching performance. Sandy drops to 4-6 but lowers his ERA to 3.09.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
