6 years agoWashington Nationals closer Sean Doolittle could not convert a four-out save on Wednesday, blowing his second attempt in 10 opportunities in Washington's 6-1 loss to the New York Mets. Doolittle was brought in with two on and none out in the eighth, but did not retire a single batter, allowing both runners to score plus four of his own runs, bringing his season ERA to 3.43 before he was replaced by Javy Guerra. Doolittle is locked into Washington's closing role, in part because he is usually effective and in part because the rest of the team's bullpen is a disaster. While that means he must be owned in standard leagues, his save total is unlikely to get very high this season with the Nationals struggling and no improvement on the horizon.--Nathaniel Green
