Sean Murphy Expected Back For Opening Day After Lung Surgery
4 years agoOakland Athletics catcher Sean Murphy (lung) did not report to camp as he recovers from offseason surgery due to a collapsed lung. Manager Bob Melvin said the surgery was at least a couple of weeks ago, and that Murphy should be back for Opening Day. The hope is for Murphy to return during camp and hopefully get in some Spring Training games. The 26-year-old backstop had a solid rookie year in 43 games during the 2020 campaign. He only batted .233, but an elite 17.1 percent walk rate fueled a strong .364 on-base percentage which helped him score 21 runs. Assuming Murphy does return for Opening Day, he is a solid value as the ninth catcher off the board in fantasy drafts.
