Sergio Romo Collects Second Save Of Season Thursday At Detroit
3 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Sergio Romo pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday to collect the save against the Tigers. It was Romo's second save of the series as Lou Trivino (back) has been sidelined with back spasms. Romo seems to be the closer-of-choice in Trivino's absence as the former Giant has been good in a setup role for manager Bob Melvin all season long. Romo is sporting a 3.18 ERA and a solid 25.2% strikeout rate and brings postseason experience to the closer role from his time on the San Francisco title teams of yesteryear. Jake Diekman earned saves earlier in the season and Andrew Chafin is in the mix, but fantasy managers hunting saves can take a flier on Romo keeping the job, especially if Trivino requires an IL stint.
