4 years agoThe Oakland Athletics and relief pitcher Sergio Romo agreed to a one-year, $2.55 million contract pending a physical. The veteran right-hander will be 38-years-old on Opening Day but has been a solid relief option in recent years. Romo converted five saves in six chances last season with Minnesota and had 25 and 20 saves respectively in 2018-19. Romo will join a bullpen mix in Oakland that includes Jake Diekman, Yusmeiro Petit, and J.B. Wendelken. Diekman was viewed as the favorite for saves after a strong 2020 season in a setup role, but manager Bob Melvin may prefer to play the matchups with the lefty Diekman and the righty Romo.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
