Shed Long Jr. Benched In Sunday’s Game 1 For Lack Of Hustle
3 years agoSeattle Mariners' second baseman Shed Long Jr. was removed in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the White Sox due to lack of hustle. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before being removed from the game. He did appear as a pinch-hitter in Game 2 and struck out in his only plate appearance. "Shed Long is not injured but was instead replaced due to not "busting it out of the box'' on his grounder in the fifth," said manager Scott Servais. "We have a standard, we are going to run hard all the time. Felt Long didn't do that there." Long is slashing .245/.431/.677 with two home runs, 11 RBI, and eight runs scored across 53 plate appearances in 2021. The 25-year-old has fantasy appeal in deep-league formats, but his lack of hustle in Sunday's game only hurts Long's bid for everyday at-bats.
