Spencer Howard Could Play Bigger Role
5 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Spencer Howard could play a bigger role for the team in a shortened season. Before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus, Phillies general manager Matt Klentak said the team wants Howard to throw meaningful innings late in the season. As a result, Howard's spring schedule was different than most pitchers in an attempt to preserve innings for late in the season. Howard was limited to 99 1/3 innings last year due to a sore shoulder, so the team will likely cap his innings around 130 innings as a rookie. Howard is the top-ranked pitching prospect in the Phillies system and will crack the rotation at some point this season. With the season delayed, Howard is rapidly gaining fantasy value as a late-round pick.
