4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Spencer Howard (back) was optioned to minor league camp on Friday, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Howard has been dealing with back spasms the past two weeks, and has been working his way back to pitching in live game action again. The move to minor league camp will allow Howard — the top prospect in the Phillies organization — more time to prepare for the season, as it is likely a matter of when, not if, he'll be back in Philadelphia. Howard made just two appearances this spring before being shut down, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out six in three innings of work. Managers in most formats can safely ignore Howard on draft day, but when he returns to Philadelphia he could be an interesting streaming option with the potential to become a must-roster player.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
