Spencer Howard To Start Games In Triple-A
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Spencer Howard was optioned to Triple-A to clear a roster slot for Jean Segura (groin), who was activated off the injured list. According to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki, Howard will start games with the goal of increasing his pitch count to the 100-pitch range. This is likely the best move for Howard's long-term development, as he's been shelled in the Phillies rotation. Howard has a 5.82 ERA with the Big League club and hasn't gotten past the third inning in three of his last four starts. The top prospect would be an intriguing bullpen arm for the Phillies, but it seems they are intent on him being a starter. He can be dropped in redraft leagues, but Howard still boasts high long-term upside and should remain on dynasty rosters.
