Starling Marte Smacks Three-Run Triple in Win
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte played a huge role in a 14-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, going 2-for-5 with a three-run triple, a steal, and a run scored. His three-bagger off of Yovani Gallardo in the six inning broke the game wide open, extending the Pittsburgh lead to 7-2. Marte is off to a decent start in 2018, slashing .259/.375/.519 with a homer, four RBI, and two steals. Perhaps the biggest positive to Marte's season thus far is an improved eye at the plate. He boasts a 15.6 percent walk rate right now, and while that's sure to come down, it's encouraging to see from a player who has walked in only five percent of his career plate appearances. If he can sustain this improved plate discipline, it'll result in more runs and stolen bases for his fantasy owners.
