Starling Marte Wrecking Fastballs To Kickstart Hot Open To Year
4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Starling Marte soared up draft boards in 2020 after having a bounce-back campaign last year with Pittsburgh. Early returns for the D-backs are encouraging, as Marte has hit .347 with a .958 OPS through his first 15 games. Fastballs have been particularly appetizing, as he has hit .483 against the hard stuff with a .759 SLG. By having cut down on the strikeouts (14.3%) and upped the walks (10.7%), Marte has rushed out to a 179 OPS+, which makes him worth the investment that many owners made, even without factoring in his stolen base chops. Even with just two steals thus far, he has room for growth over the final three-quarters of the season, which begins Monday with a three-game set in the hitter’s paradise, Coors Field.
